Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities
The Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities, Inc. is the official, Governor-designated protection and advocacy system for the State of Florida. The Advocacy Center has authority and responsibility under eight federal programs. We are a statewide, not-for-profit corporation.
Al-Anon offers understanding help; support to families and friends of problem drinkers. Our program is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Service.
Alateen is part of the Al-Anon fellowship and is for Young People who come together to: -Share experience, strength and hope with each other. -Discuss their difficulties and problems caused by their parent’s drinking habits. -Learn effective ways to cope with their problems. -Confidentially support one another. -Encourage one another. -Help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program.
Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
Department of Children and Families
The Florida Department of Children and Families has adopted an integrated approach to programs and services as we work to help improve the lives of individuals and families. It's goal is to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. They protect children, the elderly and the disabled from abuse and neglect. They also help families on a day-to-day basis by providing food stamps and temporary cash assistance and determine eligibility for Medicaid.
Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association
Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA) is a non-profit, membership organization which represents 97 community-based substance abuse treatment and prevention agencies and over 1000 individual members throughout Florida. The mission of FADAA is to represent its members in advancing addiction treatment, prevention and research through public policy leadership, communications, professional development and quality member services.
Florida Council for Community Mental Health (FCCMH)
The Florida Council for Community Mental Health (FCCMH) is a statewide association of nearly 70 community-based mental health and substance abuse agencies. The Council was formed in 1958 as an association of mental health clinic directors. Its role broadened in the 1960s and 1970s, as the focus of treatment shifted from state hospitals to communities. The association’s membership expanded to include a number of agencies that specialize in substance abuse services and children’s services.
Homeless Services Network of Central Florida
The Homeless Services Network of Central Florida is the lead agency for the HUD Continuum of Care Supportive Housing Program and Shelter + Care funding for Osceola, Seminole and Orange Counties, including the City of Orlando .
International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (IAPSRS)
The purpose of IAPSRS is to help advance the role, scope, and quality of services designed to facilitate the community readjustment of people with psychiatric disabilities. In these times of change and challenge, we in the psychosocial rehabilitation field need a strong and unified voice to achieve the mission and purposes of psychosocial rehabilitation.
Mental Health Association of Central Florida
The Mental Health Association of Central Florida was established in 1948 as the Orange County Guidance Clinic Office. In the years since, we have continued to be involved in the community through many of our unique programs. Over the past 5 years our organization has become the strongest Mental Health Association in Florida and one of the strongest in the country. This organizations dedication to the community is seen in its many consumer programs, Medical Security Program and Guardian Advocate Program to name a few.
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
NAMI is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic and other severe anxiety disorders, autism and pervasive developmental disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other severe and persistent mental illnesses that affect the brain.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - Florida
NAMI Florida, Inc. is a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering the lives of all who are touched by mental illness. We are the state's largest volunteer advocacy organization of families, consumers, and proponents of the goals to improve the quality of life for people and families coping with mental illness, to eliminate stigma and discrimination related to mental illness, and to increase awareness of brain disorders, treatment, and recovery.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Greater Orlando
NAMI Greater Orlando (NAMIGO) was founded in 1985 to improve the quality of life for individuals with Neurological Brain Disorders (NBD). NAMIGO's members are people recovering from schizophrenia, affective disorder, or other serious NBD; families with loved ones living with NBD; professionals who work with people with NBD; and caring individuals who support the efforts of NAMI.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) was established in 1992 and directed by Congress to target effectively substance abuse and mental health services to the people most in need and to translate research in these areas more effectively and more rapidly into the general health care system. Over the years SAMHSA has demonstrated that - prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover from mental and substance use disorders. Behavioral health services improve health status and reduce health care and other costs to society.
Neuroscience Treatment Team Partner Program
The Neuroscience Treatment Team Partner Program is a comprehensive educational program that encourages healthy lifestyles for people with mental illness. This program is designed for use by healthcare professionals and their patients. Divided into three detailed segments, it provides both an excellent training tool for treatment teams and a valuable resource for patients.
Seminole County Community Services
The Seminole County Community Assistance Division provides a variety of emergency services to eligible residents of Seminole County.
Sheriff Donald F. Eslinger's office is organized into two major groups, Operations and Administrative Services. Each office is headed by a Chief. Operations is headed by Chief Deputy Steve Harriett who is also the Chief Deputy Sheriff and second in command of the Sheriff's Office. Administrative Services is headed by Chief Penny Fleming. Operations consists of law enforcement and law enforcement investigative services which includes the Departments of Neighborhood Policing and Diversified Investigative Services. Administrative Services consists of administrative support to include staff and financial services, information services, and the Department of Corrections.
Suicide Prevention Resource Center
The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) provides prevention support, training, and resources to assist organizations and individuals to develop suicide prevention programs, interventions and policies, and to advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
The Treatment Advocacy Center is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to the timely and effective treatment of severe mental illnesses. TAC promotes laws, policies, and practices for the delivery of psychiatric care and supports the development of innovative treatments for and research into the causes of severe and persistent psychiatric illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
